What made you interested in being a CareDriver?
I love the kids and families I’ve been able to help. I’ve also met many friends through the other CareDrivers.
What do you like most about being a CareDriver?
Interacting with the kids, they are so much fun!
Tell us about your caregiving experience and how it impacts the work you do as a CareDriver.
I’ve worked in healthcare, and have also helped take care of many family members. This experience helps me to be understanding about people’s needs, and also helps me remember to always be patient with everyone because you don’t always know their situation.
Have you had any special experiences with Riders that have been meaningful to you?
I have bonded closely with my Series Riders. I care for them, and we have a fun time in the car. They are always so excited to see me when I pick them up!
Have you learned anything surprising from your Riders?
Yes — even in some of the most dire situations, most of these kids still do their best to remain positive.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming a CareDriver?
It’s a very rewarding experience. Always be sure to approach your Riders with empathy and patience.
Do you have any advice you think would be useful for other CareDrivers?
Try to be present in the moment to read your Riders and make sure you can give them what they need.
How important do you think HopSkipDrive’s mission (to create opportunity for all through mobility) is, and why?
Helping these families is so important! It’s great to be able to help everyone in our community have the same opportunities.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about your experience as a CareDriver?
This has been a great experience. I am so grateful for my time with HopSkipDrive, and I am looking forward to many more rides!
