Meet HopSkipDrive CareDriver Pablo F.

Five years; that’s how long Pablo F. — a dedicated CareDriver in Plano, Texas — has been driving for HopSkipDrive, helping to ensure kids get where they need to be safely and on time. But for Pablo, being a CareDriver is about more than just giving a child a ride. With a deep sense of compassion and many years of caregiving experience, he understands the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for every rider.

From sparking conversations about classic cars with shy passengers to simply being a reliable presence, Pablo embodies the true spirit of HopSkipDrive’s mission of creating opportunity for all through mobility. Read on to learn more about Pablo and why he believes kindness and patience are the keys to being a truly impactful CareDriver.

What made you decide to become a CareDriver?

I love helping kids get to their schools, sports practices, recitals, and any other activity they participate in on time and safely.

Tell us about your caregiving experience. How does it play a role in your work as a CareDriver?

I have been providing caregiving to kids and older adults for many years. It is one of the most rewarding professions, from my point of view — helping others puts many things in the proper perspective. All of my prior experience plays a key role in being a CareDriver. I can quickly identify how to properly engage with my riders and give them the safe space every kid wants.

What are the most important things you gain from being a CareDriver?

Interacting with all kinds of kids, from the ones who have a tough life to the ones who have their futures already planned.

Have you had any special experiences with riders that have been meaningful to you?

I always try to connect with my riders to find a topic of conversation. I remember one kid who was extremely shy until I learned he loved classic cars! From that moment on, he came prepared for every ride to share with me about a car that he saw on the internet.

Have you learned anything surprising from your riders?

I have learned that being kind and supportive is extremely rewarding. No money can pay for that sense of helping them.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a CareDriver?

Remember that every rider is a special person. Be sure to make them feel safe, and try your best to engage them in conversation.

Do you tell other people (such as family and friends) about HopSkipDrive?

Yes! I am proud to be a CareDriver.

Do you have any advice you think would be useful for other CareDrivers?

Always arrive on time, be patient with your riders, and remember safety is everything. Also: drive extremely carefully.

How important do you think HopSkipDrive’s mission (to create opportunity for all through mobility) is, and why?

Very important. It allows tons of kids to keep attending the school of their choice.
