Stephen Fusco named to Disability Law Colorado board
Written by HopSkipDrive
Since our earliest days, we have sought to build a team that has firsthand experience with the varied needs of school districts, parents and local education agencies as former educators, advocates and school administrators. In fact, our team is comprised of experts in mobility, safety, education, youth services and more, and we’re always looking for ways to encourage growth in these areas as we seek to provide the best possible experience for students, clients and communities.
We’re honored to announce that our Director of Legal Affairs and Data Security, Dr. Stephen Fusco (pictured left), has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Disability Law Colorado, an organization working to protect and promote the rights of people with disabilities. In this role, Stephen will contribute to Disability Law Colorado’s efforts to protect and promote the rights of people with disabilities and older people in Colorado through direct legal representation, advocacy, education and legislative analysis.
In his position at HopSkipDrive, Stephen is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of legal affairs including contracting, insurance management, risk management, product support and data privacy. This work builds on his decades of experience, which includes work as a special education teacher, a Special Olympics coach and Deputy General Counsel for Denver Public Schools. His valuable expertise will strengthen our work as we grow and expand our ability to best serve students, families, and school districts around the country, particularly students with special needs and Individualized Education Plans.
Stephen says, “It’s an honor to be asked to serve on the Board of Directors of an incredible organization like Disability Law Colorado. With my background in special education and the work we do at HopSkipDrive to enable greater access for students with disabilities, I’m humbled to be asked to work alongside them to support their mission. This organization is close to my heart and aligned with my passion for disability advocacy.”
Stephen’s appointment is based on his personal commitment to the mission and values of Disability Law Colorado, his experience and knowledge championing and working with people with disabilities, and his dedication to inclusivity and equity, among other criteria.
“Dr. Fusco’s 15-plus years of work advising boards, workgroups and private-sector partners will provide us with invaluable public policy experience,” says Carrie Basas, Executive Director of Disability Law Colorado. “We’re thrilled about his passion for enriching the disability community and improving direct services for those who are most marginalized. He personifies the equitable and inclusive mentality our organization is working to deliver across Colorado through advocacy, education and direct representation. His addition to our Board of Directors will prove indispensable to the disability community.”
